Kitchen design with a bar: 60 modern photos in the interior

Various design options of the kitchen with a bar counter allow any room, even if it is not too comfortable form, to turn into a functional and cozy. This piece of furniture came to us from the west, and today it is called the “breakfast bar”, which accurately reflects its purpose - this space allows you to have a meal right in the kitchen in cases where there is no reason to set the table.

Modern kitchen design with breakfast bar

A bar counter is a relevant subject in any interior style. It will suit both modern techno or high-tech, traditional loft, and “folk” interior design options, and “eternal classics” - the difference will be only in the form and finishing materials. By design features bar counters can be divided into the following groups:

  • The walls. They are located along the walls, and successfully replace traditional breakfast tables in small kitchens, saving space and facilitating visual perception of the room. Racks of this type are usually not connected with the furniture kitchen set and work surface. Their design may differ from the rest of the furniture.

  • Combined. This is the most versatile option that allows you to extend the work surface, change the shape of the kitchen (for example, turn it from linear to L-shaped). The countertop of the rack is a continuation of the working countertop and departs from it either linearly or at an angle. Under such a rack, you can place kitchen equipment or additional shelves for storing dishes or supplies. The interior of the kitchen with a bar counter of this type can be easily divided into functional areas in case the kitchen is located in the same room as the dining room.

  • Combined. In this embodiment, the countertop stand adjacent to the working surface, but has a different height. Usually, the working surface is directed towards the kitchen, and a higher bar - towards the dining area.

  • Island Stand-island is usually combined with appliances - stove, sink. As a rule, it is quite large in size and requires a large kitchen area so that it can be easily bypassed on all sides. The design of such kitchens is original and practical.

Bar racks can be made of various materials - from the simplest to the most exclusive - expensive woods, natural stone, it all depends on the overall interior design. They have one thing in common - increased height.

If the dining tables have an average height of 70 to 80 cm, then the height of the bar counter in the kitchen can vary from 90 cm (in the case of a combined construction) to 115 cm. Therefore, using them requires special “bar” stools also of increased height, and better if they have backs for a comfortable seat.

Kitchen options with a bar

It is impossible to describe all the variety of possible options, since in each particular case the designer makes a decision on what type this furniture structure is most suitable for the room allocated for the kitchen.

But, nevertheless, there are the most common options that are in a certain sense universal and allow you to solve several problems at once: to equip a functional kitchen room, to implement zoning, to create an expressive design. In any interior bar counter is not lost, and will be not only comfortable, but also a functional element of furniture.

Kitchen with a bar near the window

In small kitchens, the window sill, as a rule, does not look very attractive, turning into a place where objects accumulate that have no place. What design can we talk about in this case? The problem is easily solved by replacing the standard sill on the bar.

This allows you to abandon a separate table for snacking, which greatly saves space. In addition, it is pleasant to sit near the window - for example, you can drink coffee and enjoy the view from behind the window. In addition, this is the brightest place in the apartment, and the bar counter can be the place where it is convenient to engage in various hobbies.

It is possible to equip a “breakfast table” by the window even if the window is French and has no window sill. The only drawback is that in this case it is not recommended to arrange shelves for storage under the table top or to place kitchen appliances there, as this reduces illumination.

The interior, designed in this way, will still be bright, and at the same time more comfortable. In the event that the lower part of the window is located higher than usual, additional storage tanks may well be made under the worktop.

U-shaped kitchen with breakfast bar

Quite often, the bar counter is attached to the L-shaped work surface of the kitchen in such a way that, in terms of the kitchen, it forms the letter P. This is quite a convenient option, of course, if the dimensions of the room allow.

The design with this arrangement of work surfaces allows you to organize an ergonomic workplace, while you can place equipment or containers for food storage under the counter. In addition, it can visually limit the kitchen in the event that other functional areas are located in the same room with it.

Kitchen-dining room with a bar

In open-plan interiors, designers prefer to combine the functions of a kitchen and a dining room in one volume. In this case, the counter with the table top can serve as a “separator”, separating the cooking zone from the zone where it is taken. There are various options. For example, a combined stand will allow an additional workplace to be equipped in the kitchen, while the “bar” part directed towards the living room will not only provide an opportunity to have a bite, but will also serve as a decorative element in the decoration of the dining area.

Corner kitchen design with breakfast bar

Usually, corner kitchens have the shape of a letter G. By complementing it with a bar counter, you can get a more comfortable and convenient room for the hostess. The environment on three sides of the working plane will help organize the process of cooking in such a way that it takes a minimum of effort.
