Imitation brick for interior decoration

Brick - durable, durable material, used primarily for the construction of walls, interior, exterior. But it is not always possible to apply it - bulky, thick bricks will make a small room very cramped. Therefore, for finishing work in residential and office premises, high-quality imitation of brickwork is used. The variants of its execution are great, they differ in the degree of complexity, similarity with natural brick.

In the interior of which rooms can you apply a brickwork decor

The implementation of the facades of the building, the interior of the brick - it is always beautiful. But real bricks will not be used everywhere - they significantly weigh down the overlap, and not everybody has the skills of a bricklayer to make high-quality masonry.

The decor imitating a laying from red, white, any other brick, well looks practically in any room. Dark, cold, saturated colors are suitable for spacious rooms, lighter and warmer for cramped, dimly lit rooms.

This design is most often used in loft, industrial, art believe, less often - in classic, modern, minimalism, provenance. Fake masonry inside the room can cover all the walls of the room, frame window openings, door frames, have the appearance of narrow, wide, middle dividing strips. Also with its help separate logical zones are allocated, a fireplace is made out, arched structures.

The larger the room to be decorated, the larger the brick images for it, and vice versa.

In the hall

The front or hall is a kind of "face" of an apartment, all interior design is "dancing" from it. Here, brick trim is permissible on all walls, with occasional patches of suitable decor - painted ivy twigs, decorative cracks, etc. The excessively long corridor is zoned by vertical brick lines, arches located at the same distance from each other - this is the way of correcting its shape and size. heights.

In the living room

In the hall, most often with brick props not all the premises are made, but only one of its walls. It looks organically fireplace or false fireplace, looking like it was made of real bricks, several zoning partitions. If the living room is fully combined with the kitchen, then only the kitchen or living room is finished with bricks. Assume the option of creating a brick dividing strip between separate zones. Organically complete the overall picture of the bottle, the box, with colored acrylic paint bricks, pictures, applied using the decoupage technique, made with the help of ordinary putty.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, not only the walls but also the podium (if available), on which the sleeping place is located, get off with a brick decor. The same design will allow you to beautifully zone a large room, brick-trimming only a mini-office or dressing area. Photowall-paper will work best, ceramic tiles are not recommended - it is too cold.

Even minimally embossed brick imitation becomes volumetric with proper lighting arrangement.

In the bathroom

Special requirements are imposed on the imitation of a brick in a bathroom room - it must be moisture-resistant, not collapse, and not be deformed by direct contact with water. Here you can use ceramic or flexible rectangular tiles, foam, painted with waterproof paint. The colors depend on the size of the room - the narrower it is, the brighter the coating is chosen.

When installing used waterproofing materials, silicone sealants, etc.

In the kitchen

Imitation bricks for this room is made kitchen apron, made of plastic, glass, with a pattern applied to it. All materials must be waterproof, which is especially important for the zone near the sink, gas stove, it is easy to clean out the fat without the use of hard abrasives, aggressive detergents.

On the balcony, loggia

Heated, glazed balcony, a spacious loggia can be combined with any room - bedroom, kitchen, living room through the same floor with the main room. As an option: the room is finished with white or yellow painted brick, the balcony - with a darker imitation of plaster. Here, plastic panels are most often used together with foam insulation, polyurethane, mineral wool, etc.

In the nursery

For children's brick decor is rarely used, looks no less organic than in other rooms. This design is often used in teenage rooms - industrial, loft, pop art and similar styles in almost pure form look most natural there. You can decorate the room in this way with the children, simply by depicting the bricks with the help of acrylic paints, watercolors, gouaches, markers. The effect of an old brick will turn out, if in some places we draw small cracks with a gel pen.

Soft, flexible tiles - advantages, disadvantages of the material

Soft tile is one of the most "plausible" variations of creating realistic masonry. The flexible version is water resistant, which is important when used in wet areas of a bathroom or toilet, home pool, greenhouse. This material has a significant impact resistance, durability, it is vapor-permeable, resistant to mold, fungus, easily processed, does not change color from exposure to the sun, has a beautiful appearance. Also, the positive properties of a flexible tile include the fact that it will be mounted not only on perfectly flat walls, but also on convex, concave interior elements - arches, internal, external corners, window slopes, brackets, fireplaces, round columns, small architectural forms, having a complicated configuration.

Required tools, installation steps

For the interior decoration "soft brick" will need some tools that are available in almost every home:

  • metal spatula, 13-17 cm wide, with which it will stir, apply adhesive;
  • spatula 16-19 cm wide, with teeth, about four mm high .;
  • ruler made of wood, plastic or metal 100-150 cm long;
  • construction level 100-150 cm long;
  • center cord of a bright color scheme, for striking straight lines;
  • large sharp scissors;
  • simple construction pencil for marking;
  • medium-hard brush width of 10-13 mm. to align the seams between the tiles.

From materials needed:

  • flexible tile itself of a suitable color and size;
  • tile adhesive - dry mix in a paper bag or ready-made composition in a plastic bucket;
    • high-quality primer.

Step-by-step work process:

  • the surface, which is decided to decorate, is well pre-cleaned from old coatings, level;
  • after the wall with the leveling compound applied to it dries, it is primed with an antiseptic, so that under the lining the fungus does not start, mold, and adhesion is maximum;
  • after the layer is dried, the tile is directly installed. It is important to do it at a temperature not lower than five to seven degrees, since in the case of a lower tile adhesion to the wall decreases. This will have a negative impact on the appearance of the finished surface; individual parts in general can quickly fall off;
  • Next, the wall should be drawn on the same rectangles, which will subsequently be applied tile adhesive. If it is intended to decorate the entire wall completely, the bounding lines at the top and bottom must be bent;
  • The adhesive composition is uniformly applied not everywhere, but only into separate zones, 50 to 100 cm in size. The thickness of the layer is two to four mm. The application is made with a flat trowel, after which the surface is “passed” with a trowel with teeth, so that the grooves are obtained;
  • The bricks themselves are usually made with the parameters 25 by 12 cm or 10 by 15 cm - the material is easily cut with simple scissors. When ordering, the first level begins with a whole "brick", the second - with half or one-third. Before cutting, the material is laid out with a pencil and ruler;
  • during installation it is important to observe the same width of the joints between the tiles - usually it is nine or thirteen mm, but other values are acceptable. Horizontal rows periodically check the level - the tile should not "walk", excessively shifted up or down;
  • when the row "rests" on the inner or outer corner, the tiles are gently bent, sticking, like everyone else. Rounded, undulating elements, columns, fireplaces are faced in the same way;
  • each time, when a next area of about one square meter is glued over with a tile, the tile joints are smoothed with a wet narrow brush. This must be done before the glue is set, completely cured;
  • special grouting for the space between flexible bricks is not required, which significantly reduces the cost of finishing.

When making large spaces, it is recommended to take tiles from several packages in turn - the material often has a slight difference in shades, when mixed it will be almost not noticeable.

Variants of rigid tiles, their advantages and disadvantages

The rigid tile is made of plaster, ceramics, cement, mounted on a concrete, plasterboard wall, another suitable construction. As part of this decor, there are often various pigments, fibers, plasticizers. Installation of elements is made on the glue structure suitable for this or that option. Finished finish looks as close as possible to real bricks, especially if they are painted in the appropriate color.

Before the start of finishing works, it should be noted that solid tile has a rather large weight, creating an additional load on the foundation, the walls of the room.

Gypsum

Gypsum decor has a very diverse design. This material is light, the parts can be molded independently using silicone, plastic molds. Gypsum is not recommended for use in wet areas, as it is excessively hygroscopic. In the living room or bedroom, they often draw fireplaces - the microclimate in such a room will be as favorable as possible. The low cost of gypsum allows you to create a noble finish with the lowest cost.

Gypsum elements allowed to make out the inner and outer walls. For processing the corners, shaped details are taken that give the finish a neat appearance, protecting the walls from chipping and mechanical damage.

Glue-based glue is used for installation, for

sealing seams using a special grout.

Cement

The decor of cement also has a low price; it is produced in various colors - gray, red-brown, white, black, etc. This artificial brick is used even in winter in unheated rooms, as it consists of one part of high-quality Portland cement, two or three parts of sand. It is cast in silicone molds - it is permissible to paint the mortar at this stage, or with a roller, sponge, brush, decorate a finished product, which is a wall element of the masonry, under a brick or stone detail. Artificial bricks turn out textured, to the touch as real.

Clinker

Clinker is relatively expensive because it is rarely used for interior decoration. It is very durable - this option is recommended to be used for facing stoves, fireplaces, external walls of a building. The clinker tile contains highly plastic clay, pressed, baked at high temperatures - 1100-1300 degrees. Artificial pigments, plasticizers are not added - this material is the most environmentally friendly, reliable, will last for a long time, without losing its performance, attractive appearance. The clinker is durable, has a high frost resistance, practically does not absorb water, it is not afraid of sudden temperature drops, potent chemicals, detergents.

The brick tile is very decorative - it is issued glossy and opaque, covered with transparent glaze or with a natural rough surface. The variety of shapes, colors, sizes, textures will allow you to pick it up almost under any interior style.

Installation, painting tiles

You can glue hard tiles of different materials almost equally. In addition to tools for marking, applying adhesive, you will need a circular saw for sawing tiles, a grinding machine with discs for stone. The process of laying hard tiles is more laborious than flexible, due to its large weight, the need to carefully seal the seams between the individual tiles.

Working process:

  • installation is performed on the most even, previously cleaned from previous coatings, dirt, grease surface;
  • the marking is done with a regular pencil and ruler, the recommended inter-tab spacing is 9–13 mm;
  • the composition of the adhesive mass depends on the material of manufacture of the tile;
  • styling is usually done from one of the bottom corners. Odd ranks start with a whole tile, even numbers start at half;
  • glue is applied to the wall, distributed with a notched trowel. For heavy clinker tiles, it is recommended to apply an additional layer of mortar on the back wall of each element;
  • each subsequent row is checked by level — until the glue hardens, some adjustments can be made. If desired, use direct calibration inserts, which are wooden, silicone planochka, about one centimeter wide, inserted between the rows;
  • for internal, external corners, special shaped details are used to make the corners look neat;
  • when the installation is completed, the joints must be filled with grout. For its application use a special gun and the finished mixture in the tube. As an option - the grout is diluted to the desired degree of density, placed in a tight plastic bag, a corner of which is cut off, the solution is gently squeezed into the aisle;
  • avoid grouting on the front surface of parts, especially with a rough surface - it will be extremely difficult to remove it;
  • to level filling of seams, the special jointing tool is used. This should be done before the grout becomes hard - within about 20 minutes;
  • Painting is made with a decorative composition of a suitable color scheme.

Characteristics, pros, cons of interior panels

Panels for the original interior design "under the brick" are made of a variety of materials:

  • MDF;
  • hardboard;
  • Hardboard;
  • PVC;
  • glass fiber concrete;
  • DSP and other.

They differ in the degree of similarity to real bricks, size, color, thickness, durability. Installation of most types is very simple - the wall is literally assembled as a puzzle or parts are laid together.

Panels can be wall, ceiling.

PVC, MDF panels

Polyvinyl chloride parts are the most popular in modern times because of their environmental friendliness, safety, and relatively affordable cost. In the second place are panels of modified wood fiber boards. Shops offer the widest range of such decor "antique", "wild stone" and others. MDF is cut with an electric jigsaw, hand saw, PVC - with sharp scissors, a knife for paper cutting.

The main advantage of the above-described materials is that they can easily be used to finish even the most uneven walls that are not required to prepare, level, and putty. In cases when it is necessary to hide engineering communications in spacious rooms, the panels are mounted on a frame made of metal and wood. PVC panels are used in rooms with different temperatures, the degree of humidity. For sound, thermal insulation in parallel with the panels using a layer of insulation. MDF is not used in wet rooms - it is suitable for living rooms, there are also corner details in the range.

In the same way, embossed panels of hardboard, fiberglass, fiberboard, gypsum, etc. are mounted.

Glass fiber panels

Details from glass fiber cement are durable and beautiful. The material consists of high-quality cement, glass fibers (including non-ferrous), many times increasing the strength of products; in the production of exterior work, reinforcement with metal structures is often used to increase the total weight of the structure, increasing its mechanical resistance to any impacts. The material has environmental friendliness, protects the house from radio emission, but its cost is high, therefore not available to everyone.

Technology, methods of mounting panels

Interior panels are attached to a flat wall with any polymer glue, for example, "liquid nails". For curves, "humped" surfaces will require the installation of a metal frame with a special suspension system. Heavy MDF panels are additionally mounted with dowels in three to five places. Glass fiber concrete structures are attached to a flat surface using cement tile glue.

Installation is recommended to start from the bottom, from the corner.

Wallpaper under the brick coating

Wallpaper "under the brick" - the cheapest, economical, but not very durable option. Их главный плюс в том, что особых навыков, инструментов для монтажа не требуется, как и приглашения высококвалифицированных специалистов. Полезная площадь комнат совсем не уменьшается, после завершения работы практически не остается мусора.Paper, vinyl wallpaper does not weigh down the design, they can withstand even thin plasterboard. Liquid wallpaper is easily applied to the wall of any curvature, their implementation resembles the installation of tiles of cement mortar.

Wallpaper, "three de" photo wallpaper, produced in various textures, realistic prints, as if printed over the masonry.

Homemade wall finishes

There are several ways to decorate an improvised “brick” wall:

  • details are drawn by hand directly on the wall surface;
  • you can use a stencil, templates made of plastic, plywood;
  • from corrugated cardboard, pasted over with decoupage napkins;
  • gluing foam blocks;
  • from pieces of self-adhesive film of suitable color;
  • using cork substrate for laminate.

Expanded polystyrene

Polyfoam - the cheap, easily processed material. You can get the usual foam from cardboard boxes of furniture, household appliances. Blocks of dense polystyrene are purchased in the construction markets. The process is simple: the bricks of suitable size are cut from this material, the irregularities are polished with sandpaper. The parts are glued to the wall and the ceiling with tile glue, "liquid nails", PVA glue, painted with acrylic, and other water-based paint. Irregularities are pre-created with a soldering iron, stationery knife.
Tip: the preferred size of the bricks is 250 by 120 mm, the distance between them is one or two mm.

The use of stencil in imitation brickwork

The stencil is cut from a dense sheet of cardboard, rubber, linoleum, bought ready-made in the store. Putting paint, plaster is made with the help of a smooth trowel, spray, brush, sponge, roller fabric. The wall is laid out, retreating from the floor three to seven centimeters, leaving space for seams 10-15 mm. The most common size of the purchased template is 6.5 cm by 20 cm, at home you can make almost any.

If the plan is not solid, but a partial imitation of a brick, the layout is graphically depicted on paper.

Detailed master-class on creating a relief of brickwork using masking tape, plaster

One of the options for finishing the old or fresh “under the brick” wall is concrete. To work will require:

  • primer mixture;
  • high-quality plaster;
  • narrow masking tape;
  • stationery knife;
  • putty knife;
  • tanks for breeding formulations;
  • drill with a special nozzle, another tool for mixing the solution.

The wall is pre-cleared from the previous decor - wallpaper, paint, plaster, etc., if necessary, align it, and then primed. At the initial stage, the marking is very important - a marking cord or an iron tape measure is used for it. It is desirable to mark the relatively pre-filled strictly horizontally profiles under the ceiling.

Next, a narrow adhesive tape is stuck on the wall so that something like bricks turns out. Over the adhesive tape and the entire wall with a layer of five to eight millimeters applied plaster, tile glue, rotband. After the solution is slightly grabbed, the tape is gently torn off, the gaps are leveled with a wooden stack, a stiff brush.

Instead of plaster often used plain tile adhesive, it is recommended to carry out all work with gloves.

Conclusion

Apartment decoration with fake, painted, pasted brick is a very popular type of decoration. The simplest options are easy to reproduce with your own hands; for more complex ones, you will need not only professional advice, but also their direct participation. Various variations of fake brickwork are selected for almost any popular interior style - from classic to loft. Making bricks will turn out completely the whole house, and a small area in the room.
