Decorative well for giving done with your own hands

Fans of vacation in a country estate, gardeners, novice landscape designers will be interested to learn how to make a decorative well in their summer cottage, how to decorate it. Such facilities once existed in every yard, were fully functional. Nowadays, water supply is available almost everywhere, and wells with diverse decor are becoming a remarkable element of landscape design of the local area, its highlight. Before putting a well on the site, a detailed plan should be drawn up where it will be located. If you plan to self-manufacture of this element of the landscape, you still need a circuit design, the calculation of the total number of materials to translate the idea.

What is a decorative well used for?

These structures are most often used as an original decoration of the territory of the villa, but sometimes the decorative well has the following functions:

  • house-well hides various engineering communications - sewer manholes, pipes, cables, etc.;
  • it has a well with drinking water;
  • inside they are hiding barrels of water so that dirt and debris do not get into them;
  • used for storing garden tools, tools;
  • it may be an original flower bed;
  • if you put a bench next to it, you will get a kind of sun canopy;
  • the building is able to hide the flaws of the landscape.

The well should be well suited to the other design of the site, not be superfluous in it, not clutter up the space. The scenery surrounding it should create a single ensemble.

Designs

Companies engaged in the manufacture of garden decorations, sell a variety of ready-made well designs. They are quite expensive, most of them almost the same. If you order the manufacture of a well on an individual project from a landscape designer, the building will be unique, ideally fitting into the interior of the garden, but overly expensive. The best option is to choose or build a structure yourself.

Well can be:

  • in the form of a small carved house-chambers;
  • with "crane" and without a canopy;
  • in the form of a "Chinese" house with a tiled roof;
  • wicker high "nest";
  • with a small fountain;
  • in the form of a mill or a steamer.

The shape of this building is round, cylindrical, square, rectangular, hexagonal, asymmetric shape. Outwardly, it should correspond to other structures on the plot - a house, a garage, a shed, a bathhouse, a chicken coop, and also be in a similar design made of similar materials.

Materials used in the construction

Raw materials for the manufacture of the well bowl, with or without a canopy, choose the most diverse:

  • A rock. Any stone structure looks monumental. The base can serve as a ring of concrete - they are used in the construction of "real" wells. The structure can be made entirely of stones or with wooden elements. If you make it in bright colors, it will come out beautifully, in an original way. As the cladding used colored stones of various shapes, including artificial.

  • Tree. A wooden well for the suburban area is easy to do yourself. Wood - material available, easy to handle, eco-friendly, durable. It is easiest to fit into the interior of the garden, and if you have wood carving skills, a small set of tools, then you can create a real miracle. Wooden buildings need protection from moisture, rot, mildew, so they are covered with stain, varnish, special paints. For work use logs, bars, draft boards, lining, branches and so on.

  • Brick. A decorative red brick well creates the effect of an old one - it can even be decorated accordingly. The design turns out to be quite heavy, because before installation it is desirable to pour a strip foundation, otherwise the building has chances to twist or "go" deep into the ground over time. Instead of bricks, slag stones are also used, which are faced with tiles.

  • Other materials. For the manufacture of the base, you can use any available items: unnecessary tires, having previously painted them, metal posts for racks. A small well is made of wicker from vines, pine roots and even wire. Ceramic and glass mosaic, decorative plaster is used for decoration. Inside they put an iron barrel, a plastic container, an old large saucepan. The roof is made with tiles, bitumen, ondulin, cane, bamboo, moss, metal, siding.

The space around the well is made of paving slabs, pebbles, decorated with plants in pots, plaster sculptures, and carved garden dwarfs.

DIY workshop

There are very simple types of wells that even a child can do. But we will consider the step-by-step making by our own hands of a wooden decorative well with six corners. Such as in the picture below.

Materials, tools, drawings

From the main raw material used timber or planks. Parts cut from them will need to be covered with special protective compounds, paying special attention to the ends.

From the tools you will need:

  • jigsaw;
  • saw;
  • chisels;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • fasteners - pins and screws;
  • square and tape measure;
  • milling cutter.

To save time and material, it is desirable to make the most detailed drawing. Phased manufacturing on pre-thought instructions will go faster. The following is a rough outline of a well. The sizes and proportions can be any - it all depends on your imagination.

Bottom assembly

Wood materials are marked, leaving marks for slotting, according to the drawings. Cut the tree should be perpendicular to the fibers, and the grooves to beat out in parallel, so as not to form burrs. At the bottom of the well, the slits on the bottom and top parts are made on one side, and on the rest, on the two, in order to connect them conveniently. For the edges to be beautifully processed, chamfers are removed from the boards, as well as all that is superfluous, so that the joints do not have gaps. For rigidity, the head is screwed to the top of another board or timber - here will be mounted "collar". In places where they plan to mount the rack, cut grooves.

Racks and roofing

Boards or bars, for the manufacture of racks, mark smooth transitions or geometric patterns - as you like. The contour is cut with a jigsaw, and if you apply a grinding nozzle on the drill, the edges will come out polished. Racks are fixed with screws. The upper part of them is filed in the form of incomplete angles, the supports are fastened with jumpers using wood chops.

The holes for the screws and the chop are drilled a little smaller in diameter so that the fasteners fit as closely as possible. All elements of the roof: rafters, roof strips, holding the plate gash at an angle, in accordance with the drawing. In the dome also make grooves. Rafters strengthened in pairs with glue. "Umbrella" make out slats, it is better to start from the bottom, you can fix it with nails, bolts, screws. In the end, mounted decorative poppy.

Bucket and deck making

A deck is a round timber, which is fixed on racks with the help of wooden dowels. The bucket is made of several dies of the same shape and size. Their ends are treated with glue, laid out horizontally, face up. To avoid changes, you can fix the tape. Next, the workpiece is twisted with a cylinder, leaving it to seize. Cut out the bottom corresponding to the inner diameter of the ring, drill holes for fasteners. The resulting vessel can be further tightened with two tin stripes. The bucket is being collected - instead of handles there will be a decorative cord, a beautiful chain. How separately look deck and bucket, look at the picture below. Now the design is going to be put together, it can be painted in any color, varnished.

If the well is relatively small and light, it is advisable to put it on a concrete base and fix it so that a strong wind does not turn over the structure.

Decorative design

Decorating the well, as well as its general appearance, should correspond to the style of the dacha. When a garden is occupied by a large part of the site, a miniature garden with a recreation area and a rock garden is created around a well-built building.

Styling options:

  • sea style - the tub or barrel with anchors on the sides performs the role of a shaft, the wheel with ropes takes the place of the handle-gate, the tiles around it are made in the form of waves with foam. In the evening, bluish lights may turn on;

  • Chinese style - reminiscent of the traditional architecture of China. A distinctive feature - the corners of the roof are bent upwards;
  • minimalist style - strict monochromatic bowl of concrete. Above it is an arch of steel, a bucket on a decorative cord. Around a smooth green lawn, fencing in a contrasting color;
  • Antique style - the basis of concrete with stucco, racks and roof elements forged. There is a backlight from several sides;
  • medieval castle - artificially aged red brick, “antique” tiles, natural stone, elements of stained-glass stained glass;
  • Rustic style - a well is made in the form of a small mill, next is a flower bed resembling a cart, fence fence. The roof is made of straw, moss.

The following design solutions look very interesting:

  • "crane" - made from untreated wood, the base and bucket painted with folk ornaments, pasted with artificial flowers;
  • Russian Teremok - carved house-well, resembling a tower. A ridge on the roof, carvings of animals, a carved bench next to it, if there is a reservoir nearby, then a wooden bridge with a carved railing over it. From the inside can be highlighted;
  • well-pot for flowers - the base is made of stones or wood. Racks and a roof - from figured kryag, branches. The design is partially or completely intertwined with curly flowers;

  • palm-tree out of the garbage - two or three pre-painted tires, put on each other, form the basis. The upper part is a tangle of plastic bottles: stands of brown, and the roof of green. Nearby there may be a flower bed with a fence of bottles or figures of birds, also made of tires;
  • a building with a fountain or waterfall is usually a small purchased structure built into the basement on the site. Similarly make out a source of water of natural origin;
  • birch well - made from different thickness of logs with white and black bark, the bucket is also made of raw birch. The building is used as a flower bed, a table with a canopy.

Conclusion

A decorative well can look like anything - its shape, size, design, purpose, choice of materials are limited only by imagination, availability of funds from the owner of the cottage. Professional designers recommend using as much greenery and flowering plants as possible in the design of the site and the well itself, because the function of this decorative element is to deliver the aesthetic pleasure to the owners and guests of the estate, decorating the garden.
